The 8:00 AM Sunday Choir at St. Paschal Baylon Parish has been a cherished part of parish life since its inception in 2005. It all began when Father Mario Lorenzana entrusted Joel Licuanan with the task of organizing a choir for what was then the 8:30 AM Sunday Mass, the earliest of the weekend schedule at that time. Just weeks before Easter, Joel gathered a small group willing to step out of their comfort zones and sing at this early Mass. Many were hesitant at first, including Joel himself, as it required adjusting to a new Saturday night routine. Yet, motivated by faith and the desire to serve God and the parish, a dedicated group agreed to try.
From the very first Mass, it was clear that something special was happening. Though waking up early was a significant change, the choir members discovered a deep sense of belonging — a spiritual home within the church and in the hearts of the parishioners. Their music set a reverent and joyful tone for the Eucharist, inspiring the congregation and enhancing the liturgical experience.
Shortly thereafter, Nonie Magtibay joined as Musical Director, a moment many describe as providential. Her leadership, vision, and dedication strengthened the choir and ensured its continued growth. Together, Joel, Ate Nonie, and the choir members committed to singing faithfully every Sunday, allowing God’s presence to shine through their music. The choir now holds its weekly rehearsal every Sunday at 7:15 AM, just before Mass, ensuring that everyone is ready to lead the congregation in song.
Over the years, the 8:30 AM choir transitioned to the current 8:00 AM schedule, but its spirit and mission remain the same. The choir has become more than just a musical ministry — it is a family united in faith, service, and community. Members share not only their voices but also their hearts, supporting one another in spiritual growth and fostering fellowship that extends beyond the choir loft. Their dedication reflects the belief that every note sung is an offering to God, enriching the parish’s liturgical celebrations and creating a welcoming environment for all who attend Mass.
Today, the 8:00 AM Sunday Choir continues to serve as a living testimony of faith, commitment, and God’s guidance. Each member embraces their role with joy, knowing that through their music, they are helping the parish community enter more fully into the mystery of the Eucharist, lifting hearts and voices in praise of God.
